Unit 2 Individual Project 2 Historical Foundations During the time of the Roman Empire, Latin was the primary language spoken and written as well as in the Christian churches. As the Roman Empire grows and geographic territories expanded, Latin was the most common language used for people of different linguistic backgrounds to communicate (Sayre 2010). Like all other languages, Latin had different forms and changed over the years. The language differed by social and education levels and they decided the way the language was used, by the way it was written and spoken. The language was also influenced within the larger territory which became known as the Roman Empire. Later the development of Latin literacy was promoted.
