Strategic leadership can be significantly important for an organisation as leadership qualities
can change the operation of businesses in an organisation. Leadership development in an
organisation can be considered as the activities that help in improving the abilities, skills and
confidence of a leader. In an organisation, leadership development is a prevalent procedure in
succession planning which attempts to produce leaders having high calibre. In this context, it is
significantly important to consider the participative theory of leadership. In this theory, an ideal
style of leadership is the style in which the suggestions and ideas of others are taken into
consideration ( Odoardi et al. 2019). The theory postulates effective participation from all the
members of a group which makes them more committed to the procedure of decision making.
The participation of all the team members ensures that leadership development takes place
efficiently. In addition, the model of Transformational leadership can be significantly important in
the case of participation ( Hawkins, 2017). A transformational leader can focus on inspiring and
motivating followers. This attitude is an essential step in the leadership development of a
company. For example, in the case of Sainsbury, the leader in the organisation Michael Andrew
Coupe works as a participative leader. The style of leadership of him is significantly different
from others. Sainsbury's practical strategic thinking has been contributed by the leader. In order
