Gender-Role Socialization: lifelong process whereby people learn the values, attitudes, motivations and behaviors considered appropriate to each sex according to their culture Parents treat children differently from birth based on their sex category At an early age, children develop stereotypical conceptions of both genders, and being to use these conceptions to organize their knowledge and behavior.Second source of socialization. Boy you cry. Boy friend says.. stop crying and being a wimp. Girls arent suppose to play with masculine toys. Children were seen as contributors to work. Hunters and gathers. Creating stuff building stuff away from home. Caretaking is not real work. Children more precious and innocent. Industrial revolution children are still little and can become adults later. Men can work overtime and can have the food to eat. Adding to the income of the man. Vulnerability and dependence. Gender is learned and is a process. No one is born with a gender. Individuals we are trying to fit into gender norms. Shared information, shared knowledge. Dressing a particular way and interacting with others. Trying to be like others. Gender differenceinstitutions. Segregation. Which occupations men and women do. Men and women hold the same position seen in different ways. Women seen as aggressive and men as competitors in politics. Inclines hierarchy or genders. Learn and experience a denoted. Express that theyve lost privileged. And understand what it means to be a women. Rank of the sexes and of the genders. Gender is learned, and is constant. Institutions of the church. Agnes was a transsexual that was studied and how he lived and how he was put into society. Young boy that wants to be a girl and starts acting feminie forms of behavior. 17 years old. Gets a sex change and there is a complication. Agnes is finding himself as a girl even though he finds himself as a girl. Try and change his behavior to fit society norms. Girls and boys bathroom and girls and boys toys. Different deodorants. Help us construct out gender identities. Gender is learned. Socialization process of young children. One boy wants to play with a doll, other boys say no. Between different occupations. Male roles and female roles. Performance does not necessitate the appearance of both men and women. Different occupations based on gender. Peers teach and reinforce gender norms Proper behavior is reinforced through rewards which inappropriate behavior is punishedSecond source of socialization.
