New Terminology 0. Biology- study of life 1. Ecosystem- the living and nonliving things in a particular area at the same time Ecology- the study of the interactions of the living and non living things in an environment 2. Biotic- means living 3. Abiotic- means non living Energy and Ecosystems 4. Energy flow- 5. The movement of energy through an ecosystem 6. Energy flows travels ONE WAY through an ecosystem 7. Our primary energy source is the Sun. The process by which the suns energy is captured is called: photosynthesis Names for how organisms capture energy 8. Autotrophs- capture their own energy 9. Producers is another name for these organisms 10. Autotrophs = producers 11. Examples of autotrophs? 12. Heterotrophs- organisms that must get their energy “from others” or by eating it. 13. Consumer is another name for heterotroph Heterotroph = consumer 14. Consumer types 15. Herbivore = primary consumer 16. Organisms that eat plants Examples?
