Exam When you enter the room, please do not sit down. Line up along the side walls. We will seat you from the front of the room. This will help get all of you into your seats with exams as rapidly as possible without tripping over others already seated.

What to expect 20 multiple choice questions. Roughly half are concept questions, covering fundamental concepts we have covered. A couple questions require knowledge of SI units. A number of questions are quantitative. A calculator will be useful.

What can you bring to the exam? 1. Your ID card. While I wish I could get to know everyone's face and name, this may not be possible. Students who do not bring their ID cards may not take the exam. 2. One 4x6 note card (front & back) with any notes you wish to write on it. The act of composing this sheet will help you study. Photocopying someone else's note sheet will probably impede your performance. The sheet must be hand written. (Traced-over printed material is not hand written and is not permitted.) 3. A formula page will also be given with the exam. You will staple your formula sheet to your exam when you complete your exam. It will be returned to you in discussion section. 4. No. 2 pencils. We will use scantron forms. 5. A calculator. Using a preprogrammed calculator to store information which you are expected to know (such as equations etc.) is considered cheating. 6. A seat will be randomly assigned to you when you get to the exam. During the exam we will come around to check your ID. I you are not who you think you are, you will be discovered. Please do not bring anything else to the exam. This will prevent the appearance of cheating. The use of laptops, pagers, and cell phones during exams is forbidden.

Units The equations we use in this class are based of the SI system of units. The fundamental units in the SI system are meter-kilogram-second-ampere (MKSA). All other units are called derived units . Performing dimensional analysis requires us to manipulate units. We can use our equations to remind us of the relationship between units. 2 2 2 C As kg m N s kg m J s = = = C Coulomb V Volt A Ampere* m meter* kg kilogram* s second* N Newton J Joule *Fundamental units of the SI system 2 m N = kg s F ma = 22 2 m J = N m = kg m = kg m s s W Fs  = ∆⇒   NV = Cm V E s = ( ) 23 1 kg m s N m J V = = = kg m s A C C A s −− ⇒=
