Origins of World War 2 1941 two main alliances wert against each other >> Japan, Germany and Italy There was an agreement between Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. Japan’s War in China This conflict started with Japan attacking China wanting to take over Manchuria. Their goal was to conquer. League of Nations condemned its actions in Manchuria so Japan had to withdraw from such actions Battle w/ Chinese and Japanese troops occurred at the Marco Polo Bridge in Beijing; this was the opening move to declare war with China (for Japan) The Rape of Nanjing -China became the first nation to experience WW2 horrors. -Japanese soldiers and civilians burned 1/3 of the houses in Nanjing. 400,000 Chinese lost their lives. Chinese Resistance -September 1937 nationalists and communists agrees on “united front” policy against the Japanese allowed them to have standing armies of 1.7 millions soldiers. European Aggression Italy’s expansion helped in stabilize the Great War peace and spread World War 2 to the Europe. 600,000 thousand Italian soldiers died in this war Italy -Benito Mussolini promised Italy glory through the regaining of territories. -Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) , General Francisco
