Social Relationship 21:05 Social relationship  Patterned and ongoing ways individuals relate to one another We have to participate in some way Interactions within a relationship are functions of the role requirements of  these statuses Interdependence An interpersonal association in which two ppl consistently influence each  other’s lives and focus their thoughts and emotions on one another The importance of the social bond (Thomas Scheff) The main quest that underlies human actions is the maintenance of intact,  healthy social bonds Ppl need a web of such bonds—they need to feel a sense of attachment and  belonging to several other ppl Social group A collection of two or more ppl who interact frequently with one another, share  a sense of belonging and have a feeling of interdependence—not an  aggregate or category Ingroup Any group to which a person belongs and feels a sense of identity or loyalty
