Eric Hammer Eden Username: Ehamm05 Due Date: Wednesday, March 9, 2011 1. Because I live on the first floor of my building, I typically don’t take the elevator much, but for the purpose of the assignment, and to also conserve some energy, I took the elevator. I was in the elevator with three other people, who I could tell were together for multiple reasons. The first reason is because I see them around the building on a daily basis, and they are always together and talking; that is how I knew they were friends. I was the first in the elevator, so I positioned myself against the back wall because I was tired from walking back from class and also because I was the first person in the elevator. If I didn’t take the back wall, I would have created an unnecessary barrier for the other three passengers. Two other people also positioned themselves against one of the walls; the last person in the elevator was the only person simply standing on their own power, but this is probably due to the fact that there was not much room on the walls for them to leave on. As soon as everyone got into his or her position, it was natural for all four of us to look around quickly but discretely. I wanted to see who they all were because perhaps I knew them or recognized them; I only recognized who they were because they live in the building, but I don’t know where in the building they live or what their names are. Also, I was interested in seeing what they look like because I know they were thinking the same thing. Most people judge people simply by the way they look; I’m not saying it is the right thing to do, but it’s true. I wanted to glance quickly at all three people, but at the same time, I did not want them knowing I was because that would have created an awkward eye contact that everyone experiences. The three of them continued on with their conversation about the food they just ate at Brower Commons. It was rude of me to eavesdrop on their conversation, but I could not help it because I was standing right next to them. None of them even acknowledged
