University of Arkansas College of Education and Health Professions Department of Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Recreation, and Dance I. Program Affiliation: Kinesiology Course Number/Title: PHED 3001/Teaching Practicum Catalog Description: P-12 Kinesiology majors serve as a teaching assistant with a local school physical education teacher. This course should be taken the semester before PHED 407V Internship. Professor: Dr. Jack Kern 575-4098 II. Relationship to knowledge base: Specialty Studies This course is primarily related to the Scholar-Practitioner Model as a pedagogical studies course. The pedagogical physical education component includes the systematic study of teaching and learning theory with appropriate laboratory and clinical experience. III. Goals: This practicum is designed to provide students with a field-based teaching experience under the supervision of a public school mentor teacher. IV. Competencies: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Identify key attributes of an effective physical education environment. NCATE 1, ATC 1, 2 2. Reflect on their own teaching practices and compare them to accepted practices in the field. NCATE 1, ATC 1,3 3. Demonstrate the ability to team teach and work collaboratively with a public school mentor
