Rolando Hernandez 03/08/10 Phil- Ethics 201 Prof. Sosa Abortion: Pro Life vs. Pro Choice What: Different religion share different beliefs as to when human life comes to existence: Roman Catholic Church believes that a human life begins at the very moment of conception. Philip Devin argues against abortion: “A fetus is a member of the human species and potentially a person” (Abelson 237). Presents two principles: Species principle (Infant is a member of the human species) and potentiality principle (Infant will think, talk, love, and have a sense of justice). Argument ad hominem (anti-abortion)-Latin for homicide. Answers to Marvin Kohls’ views (A woman’s request to have an abortion is sufficient justification to kill a fetus): Qualitative , Quantitative, and Conceptual. Mary Anne Warren argues for abortion: “A woman has the right to rid herself of an unwanted fetus that, not yet a person, does not have a person’s right to life” (Abelson 237). Infanticide is morally permissible. Victimizes women. Separate question: 1.
