Rolando Hernandez 9/9/11 Bible and American Culture The Bible, by definition, is a collection of books written by various authors who were inspired by their individual understandings of what or whom God is. In order to declare such a document to be the Word of God, we as a nation must be in accordance to the beliefs that are put forth by these authors. It would be statistically impossible for all of the American population to agree on the views of these particular individuals due to the religious diversity that exists in the U.S. today. Many U.S. citizens do not credit any of content that is contained in this text to be true or let alone deem it to be the Word of God. We as a government must take these individuals into account when making a decision such as the one presented today. In addition, there are several other Bibles that have been written and numerous religions that exist around the world so it would be a highly subjective move to instate this specific document as the Word of God.
