MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM I. Subjective Data a. Joints i. Any problems? Pain? Where? On one side or both? What does it feel like? When did it start? What time of day does it occur? How long does it last? How often? Aggravated by movement, rest, position, weather? What relieves it? Associated with chills, fever, sore throat, trauma, activity? Stiffness? Swelling, heat, redness? Limited ROM? ii. Joint pain and loss of function are most common concern iii. RA involves symmetric joints iv. With acute inflammation, joints are exquisitely tender v. RA pain is worse in morning, as is tendinitis vi. Osteoarthritis is worse later in day vii.In RA, movement decreases pain unlike other joint pain viii. Joint pain 10-14 days after an untreated strep throat=rheumatic fever ix. Decreased ROM may be d/t joint injury to cartilage or capsule, or to muscle contracture b. Muscles i. any pain/cramping? Where? 1. Myalgia is usually felt as cramping or aching ii. Pain in calf? With walking? Go away at rest?
