Unformatted text preview: Flowchart Tutorial How to draw flowcharts in ten easy steps. FLOWCHART TUTORIAL 1. Understand the system thoroughly before flowcharting it. Interview users, developers, auditors and managers. Have them write up a narrative or, alternatively, answer a questionnaire. Read through the narrative description and walk through the system transactions. FLOWCHART TUTORIAL 2.Identify the entities to be flowcharted. Entities can be concepts, processes or physical items (documents). Identify documents and information flows in the system as well as the activities and processes performed on the data. One useful technique is to draw a circle around documents, a line under activities & a box around other entities when reading the narrative description. FLOWCHART TUTORIAL 3. Apply the Sandwich Rule: Continually think in terms of the basic IS/AIS model of input--process--output. Each manual-processing symbol should have an input and an output. Do not directly connect two document symbols.
