Unformatted text preview: Ivy Chung Stacey Yip Anish Dhamija BILD 10 Debate Concluding Speech The chemical triclosan is a synthetic antimicrobial agent that in recent years has exploded onto the consumer market in a wide variety of antibacterial soaps, cosmetics, fabrics, plastics, and other products. The main problems with this chemical come from a range of health and environmental effects such as bacterial antibiotic resistant and allergy susceptibility. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there are about 90,000 deaths per year in the US due to bacterial infection, in particular those resistant to pathogens caused by the chemical triclosan. Knowing that this chemical is the cause of so many deaths, would any of you really want to expose this chemical to your children? To your loved ones? Look at mothers and children.
