1 Dance Event Report #1 Your Name: Stephanie Pham Date of Event: Date of Report: October 2, 2010 October 3, 2010 Name of Event, Performance and/or Company I watched the movie Step Up. What type(s) or genre(s) of dance was (were) presented? There were so many styles of dance presented in this film! There are almost too many to name, and they were all flawlessly blended together. For example, the female lead, Nora, has a background in what looks to be ballet and modern contemporary. On the other end of the spectrum, the male lead, Tyler, isn’t professionally trained but can dance hip hop and some break dancing. On a side note, I really like the fact that the female lead, Jenna Dewan, is actually a professionally trained dancer. Most movies have an actress as the lead and then they just have a dance double. I like that she actually does all of her own dancing. How did you participate? I was an avid watcher of the movie. Of course, it’s not the same as seeing a live audience, but it was still a good learning experience. I had already watched the movie a few times before, but that was mostly for entertainment value; I didn’t think about the styles of dance or analyze how they were incorporated into the movie. This time around, I paid less attention to the plot of the
