1 Dance Event Report #2 Your Name Stephanie Pham Date of Event: Date of Report: Saturday, October 23, 2010 November 11, 2010 Name of Event, Performance and/or Company Lambda Sigma Upsilon Showdown IV (Stroll Competition) What type(s) or genre(s) of dance was (were) presented? I recognized styles of hip hop and stepping. Also, there was both choreographed and improvised dancing. The proper term for the style of dance being performed is “strolling.” How did you participate? I attended the event to support my friends who are in some of the competing sororities and watched all of the performances. What did you expect the event to be like? I saw some videos of the Greek Grind competition which took place three days before I went to the LSU IV Showdown, which featured Greek organizations from the National Pan-Hellenic Association. From what I saw, the dancing was mostly choreographed smooth hip hop with elements of cheerleading-like aspects. With my limited exposure to Greek life, I thought that the LSU IV Showdown was going to be more of the same: the fraternities and sororities from the Multicultural Greek Council would come on stage and perform some dance routines.
