May 2, 2011 Stephanie Pham 818B Russell Hall, Athens, GA 30609 Mayor Nancy Denson 301 College Ave Suite 300 Athens, GA 30601 Dear Honorable Mayor Denson, I am writing to you to express my concerns about the water quality here in Athens, GA. For my biology lab class, we recently tested the water of various locations in the city to see if it was clean and acceptable for living. More specifically, my group examined the water in the creek at Dudley Park and reported on activities within the watershed, or water ecosystem surrounding the area. I would like to tell you about our results, what they mean, and what we can do to better the water quality here in Athens. Firstly, we did a survey on the watershed, which included the land surrounding the water. We found that construction of man made structures, such as bridges and railways over the water, which can affect the natural quality of the water. In addition, we also noticed that the park was in a commercial area containing restaurants, gas stations, and parking lots. As we know, human
