7/15/11 Soci 1 David Kandanoff Weekly Reflection 3 Often times I feel as if there were not enough time. I question the circumstances and situations I find myself in, the why and the reasons as well. I play with the lofty thoughts of my future and what it may hold for me. My version of “The American Dream” and my desires to fulfill that dream or to even deny that dream. Much of what I have been taught whether explicitly or not, has been because of my parents and the manner in which they raised me. They gave me the opportunities and they taught me the core values of which I know. I am not saying that everything I have learned and know of today comes from them or everything that I identify with agrees with them either, however it is because of my parents and their background that I may see my life chances as well. Growing up in middle, upper-middle class Los Angeles County in the city of Diamond Bar for approximately thirteen years of my life, I was exposed to the methods of growing and learning as talked about in Lareau’s “Invisible Inequality”.
