Jeane Lee A08887978 Soci 1 7/1/11 David Kandanoff Weekly Reflection The importance and the impact of street life as portrayed in the Duneier’s movie, “Sidewalk” is something that is a part of society’s structure and the culture’s structure as well. It is a large part of making the urban city what it is and adds so much character and life to this slice of the whole society. Comparing these lives and the ways in which these people of Greenwich and 6 th Street carry on to the way I carry on my life is extremely different and continue to be different in my stage in life as of now. There are two types of social factors – social structures and cultural structures. Both are so completely different to somebody like Alice or Ishmael than they are to me. I am a second generation Korean-American and grew up in the middle of suburbia. The social structures that I have grown up with and learned to accept and know over my lifetime is totally different from these book vendors as we saw in the movie.
