Chicago school o Chicago school emerges during late 19 th /early 20 th  centuries U.S. Sociology moves towards reformist stance on inequality Applied empirical research Interactions and how environments shape interactions Moving away from pure soc and more towards applied soc Chicago Perfect place to study rapid social change In 1860 population = 10000/ in 1910 pop = 2,000,000 Large scale immigration and the Great Migration People fighting for jobs and homes, confusion, racial tension,  everyone vying for status and jobs Theorists were interested in social ecology (the relationship between  an individual’s behavior/character and their social and physical  environments How does where one lives/interacts affects ones behavior. Appears  to be a relationship Jane Addams o Won the first Nobel Peace Prize (1931) given to an American sociologist
