Culture Jamming o Culture Jamming: the act of turning media against itself Critique or challenge to mainstream culture Movement against consumer culture Views advertising as propaganda Attempt to bring “authentic” emotion back in Tell us how to feel and when (i.e. sad on memorial day) do this with  moral shocks o Moral Shocks (Jasper, 1997) The experience of a sudden and deeply emotional stimulus that causes  an individual to come to terms with a reality that is quite opposed to the  values and morals already held by that individual When effective, moral shocks can propel individuals to activism o Adbusters Canadian anticonsumerist magazine Create spoof ads, satirical in nature “Consumer Behavior and the Dependence Effect” o Theory of Consumer Demand Wants are insatiable As people get their desires, reach their wants, their wants are never
