Jimenez 1 Jennifer Jimenez Professor Maddison ENC 1101 25 October 2006 “Well building hath three conditions: Commoditie, Firmenes, and Delight.”, said Vitruvius, a 1st-century BC Roman Architect. He meant that architecture must satisfy its intended uses and that it must convey aesthetic meaning. But the best buildings are usually so well constructed that they outlast their original use, according to the Encarta Encyclopedia . They have survived through years not only as beautiful structures, but as documents of history. Architecture has played a big part in the lives of many, starting from the homes they live in, to the schools they learn things in, to the offices they work in. It allows us to really enjoy the things that are a part of our surroundings. A clear understanding of the word architect can be attained by an analysis of its formal, historical, and informal definitions. An architect is a person who translates the user's needs into the builder's requirements, according to the Wikipedia Encyclopedia . He or she must thoroughly understand the building and operational codes under which their design must conform. That measure of knowledge is necessary so that he or she is not apt to omit any essential requirements.
