ABSTRACT: The objective of this experiment is to study the dissolution of solid spherical particles in an agitated liquid using different types of agitators and to determine experimentally the interphase mass transfer coefficient. In this experiment dissolution of solid-liquid (sucrose balls in distilled water) was studied. The main idea of experiment was to add three solid sugar spherical balls in a vessel filled water and to steer the water using 2 different impellers (three bladed and six bladed impellers at different angular speeds (275 rpm and 384 rpm). The weight lost of sugar balls was recorded regularly each three minutes The explanations are present in the conclusion of this report. The mass transfer coefficient (K LS ) was calculated for different speeds and types of impellers. For example, for 3 blades (275 rpm) impeller K LS was 7.0 x 10 -4 m/s and for 384 rpm impeller it was 7.2 x 10 -4 m/s. Equipment: The apparatus basically consists of an agitated vessel of 28.75 cm in diameter and 40 cm in height, sour ball solids of diameter in the range of 1.5 to 2.5 cm, distilled water as a dissolving liquid, two type of impellers, a ladle, a balance and a drain valve. the agitated vessel is provided with a lid on the top of the tank with a slot up to the center which allows the shaft of impeller to pass through the lid.
