EVERHART ARHI 2100 Parody Essay QuickTime ` and a TIFF (Uncompres ed) decompres or are ne ded to se this picture. This cartoon is a parody of Rembrandt’s Self-Portrait. I feel that the caption at the bottom could reference either one of two things. First it could just be commenting on how people are quick to judge artwork, including people that may not be knowledgeable of it. On the other hand, I felt that it could be a sly way of commenting on Rembrandt’s talent. Artists for a variety of reasons do self-portraits. The model is always available; it’s a way to explore one’s minds, and also a way to show off certain skills. I would imagine it being very difficult for an artist to depict themselves exactly in a self-portrait, especially their flaws. In conclusion, I think the cartoon is commenting on the skill of Rembrandt and his ability to depict on canvas precisely what he saw in person.
