Documentary 2 Why Sex?? Sex drives evolution. Lizards species made only of females that give birth without sex. The egg grows with no paternal care and has exact copy of maternal gene ( clones). If some species do that, then why some other species waste time mating to get the input of the male genes? What is the evolutionary reason or motive behind sexual reproduction? He collected fish that were infected with a parasite that causes dark spots. The asexual reproducers are more parasitized, but Why since they live in the same environment as sexual fish?? “ red queen” phenomena. Asexual fish don’t evolve, they are static so easy target for parasites. Sexual reproducing fish slow down the parasite invasion. Sex is apparently a fast way to protect against infection. After the drought, the contrary happened. The parasite infected the sexual species, lost their variation and resembled themselves genetically. They outnumbered the clones ( asexual fish). Sex generates variability, and when you take that away when you allow sexual species of the fish to
