York International will make every effort to notify the York community of changes. Please check our website regularly for update s http://international.yorku.ca ) *** General Information The Off-Campus Work Permit (OCWP) Program for International Students is an initiative that allows eligible international students to work off-campus during their studies. Previously, International Students were only allowed to work on-campus unless they received a work permit to do an internship or co-op program that was a part of their degree. With this program, students who are in Full time studies and meet the eligibility criteria (see criteria below) may work off-campus for up to twenty (20) hours per week during the school year and up to forty (40) hours per week during breaks and holidays (i.e. Winter Holidays, Reading Week and Summer Break). All potential applicants should be aware of the following information: 1. The student is responsible for applying for their work permit, and maintaining their eligibility for the program. 2. The University will report to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on a regular basis outlining the ineligibility of each student who has received a Verification form. 3. Information and correspondence related to a student’s participation in the Off Campus Work Permit Program will be retained for the duration of the student’s time at York University. 4. Students do not need to secure an offer of employment before they apply for this work permit. 5. This is an open work permit, meaning students can apply for work in any geographical location within Canada, and with any type of employer. 6. Although an open permit, a CIC officer can impose restrictions or conditions on the work permit. 7. Students must adhere to the restrictions on their work permit. 8. A CIC officer may choose to grant a work permit for the duration of the individual’s Study Permit, or any time less than that. 9. The student is advised to retain copies of all materials related to the Off Campus Work Permit Program. Eligibility Criteria According to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) regulations, in order to be eligible for the program, students must meet ALL of the following criteria: i. Possess a valid Study Permit. ii. Have studied full-time for at least six (6) months out of the last twelve (12) months prior to the date of the work permit application. iii.
