MIDTERM (Take-home) Statistics 108 Summer Session I, 2011 [This take-home project covers 20% of the MIDTERM. It is due on Tuesday, July 12.] This data set is taken from an article that appeared in 1974 in the magazine American Naturalist . It contains the average values of brain weight and body weight of 96 species of animals. The data set is attached here: Column 1: brain weight (grams), Column 2: body weight (kilograms), Brain weight is the response variable. Analyze the data set given below using the regression method. Perform a complete analysis including residual analysis, variable transformations etc. Prepare a thorough report as you would do for a client. This report should include all the steps used in the analysis, their justifications (relevant plots, analysis of residuals, diagnostics etc.), and your conclusions. Also comment on the possible improvements that can be made on your analysis if you detect nonlinearities, unequal variance, outliers etc. Please cut and paste the relevant portions from your computer printouts.
