Questions for Review Ch.6 1. Perception is a process by which individuals organize and interpret their sensory impressions in order to give meaning to their environment. Perception is influenced by perception, target being perceived and the context of the situation in which the perception is made. 2. Attribution theory tries to explain the ways in which we judge people differently, depending on the meaning we attribute to a given behavior. It suggests that when we observe an individual’s behavior, we attempt to determine whether it was internally or externally caused. The three determinants of attribution are distinctiveness, consensus, and consistency. It can help explain the organizational behavior because through the theory, we can know whether an employee’s poor performances are due to internal or external reasons. 3. Selective perception, halo effect, contrast effects, and stereotyping are shortcuts people frequently use in making judgments about others. 4.
