Why do you have to take a course in the basics of instrumental analysis? The majority of chemistry measurements made today are performed with instruments. You need to know something about common analytical instruments There are many different instruments and they are continually changing. However, if you know something about the basics of the way instruments work, this will help you when you encounter new instruments. You need earn about the alternative techniques available and the ways people decide which techniques to use in specific situations. Some of you won’t be analysts – but you will need to interpret (act on?) IA data. 2
