6/18/10 Notes Relevant- Absolute- Teleological - Utilitarianism- act is good makes you happy, do what it produce the most total happiness but not more than anybody else. Two Important figures -Bendham -John Stewart Mills Deontological - Kant: thoughts were very complex -People exercise from these rights -If we don’t have freedom of speech everybody will go nuts 6/21/10 Summary (Friday) - Kant is an absolutists and deontological - Good will is the good itself and the act is moral pure/ act - One level of one act - No Control over things - Needs to be refine (good motive makes action good which means claims the action is good with a designated good) Will motivated Good Will (pg.14) - Duty, principles, consistent, and reason - Definition: means good in itself (duty) - Two Motivation: duty and inclination Inclination- everything or in anything you want to do Duty –ought to do
