16:40 Speaking to Inform Preparing an Informative Speech COM100 Goal of Speech Purpose: to Teach and inform your audience about something In the case of this case, a business or organization How Audiences Learn Understanding the learning process improves your ability to teach your  audience something People learn by: o Attention- Key to this speech (ask questions and give an alternative  beginning i.e. jokes, statistics)  o Motivation o Retention o Narrative Clarity is Key Avoid using confusing or unfamiliar terms o If you cannot avoid it, make sure you define the o Barney Stinson- He’s awesome!  Cover a manageable amount of material  o Don’t me a news channel cast person please! Involve the audience as much as possible o Ask questions- Convo Style! Don’t drown the audience in statistics, Pick 4 or 5 main topics
