English 310/Levison YOUR IDEAS FROM OUR DISCUSSION OF THE MALLS PREREADING  QUESTIONS Question 1.                Materialism means       --Materialism means liking material goods.  --Materialism means using material goods to evaluate someone (determining the worth  of someone by looking at their material possessions)  Question 2.               What does it mean to be human?     --interacting with the environment (friends and nature) --freedom to choose what to do and what to say --having emotions--love, hate, fear, etc. --having language and so being able to communicate --having knowledge, wisdom, creativity --using tools (some animals use tools too actually) --using a system of law --having responsibility, having a sense of responsibility --being able to exercise control (of others? of oneself?) --being able to get joy in the spirit, and satisfaction --having a connection with other human beings --having a desire to shop, shopping to release pressure
