Introduction What is cultural intelligence? One author says, “Cultural intelligence is the capability to function effectively across national, ethnic, and organizational cultures.” 1 The CQ test results are broken down into four main capabilities categories including: drive, action, knowledge, and strategy. These capabilities are then each divided further into four subcategories to help better understand and interpret the results. The test consists of many questions. It is important to have an understanding of my personal cultural intelligence because it allows me to know which areas are my strengths, but also to understand my weaknesses so that I can work on them. As a pastor, this is extremely important as I try to lead our church to become a multiethnic church. It’s hard to lead others to be multiethnic and culturally accepting without a high cultural intelligence or at least knowledge of what needs to be done to improve in those areas. Pastoring a church that desires to be multiethnic, this analysis will help me to better understand areas that I personally need to work on but also areas that I could help others work on as well. Leading a multiethnic church has its challenges but understanding culture and intelligence will help get a game plan together to implement in the context I am currently in. This test has allowed me to create an action plan so that I can strive to have a higher cultural intelligence. Before I discuss my action plan, I will go into a detailed analysis of the results by section in order of highest to lowest overall score. CQ Assessment Strategy My overall highest was a score of 73 in the category of strategy. In the CQ assessment it defines CQ strategy as, “the extent to which you are aware of what’s going on in multicultural 1 David A Livermore (2019). situations and the extent to which you check and plan accordingly.” 2 In the subcategories, I scored an 84 in both areas of planning and awareness. However, I scored in the high percentile in planning and the average percentile for awareness. My lowest was in the area of checking which involves reflecting and making adjustments as needed. I feel that I spend a decent amount of time strategizing how to be multiethnic and create ways to be culturally accepting and welcoming in our church. I also spend time assessing how they are going and working including
