External acoustic meatus; also called the auditory canal i. About 1 inch long and ¼ inch wide ii. Contains ceruminous glands, which make ear wax c. Tympanic membrane--the ear drum 2. Middle ear, also called the tympanic cavity a. Between eardrum and the “oval window and round window”, which are openings into the choclea b. Phayngotympanic tube, also called the auditory tube i. Equalizes the pressure in the middle ear cavity ii. “Tubes” relieve the pressure when the cavity fills with pus and becomes inflamed. c. Ear bones
