Sudden Infant Death Syndrome 1) Introduction Section – this section must contain the following: a) Topic selection and reason for selecting: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome; I chose to do my presentation on SIDS because I lost my 8 week old daughter to SIDS on November 3, 2018. b) Thoroughly define the disease/condition: SIDS is the unexpected death of a seemingly healthy baby between newborn and one year of age that usually occurs during sleep (CDC, 2020). c) History of the disease/condition: The term was first proposed in 1969 by a group of doctors to describe a subgroup of sudden infant deaths during the post neonatal period with undeviating clinical, epidemiological, and pathological features (Beckwith, 2003). i) One of the first cases recorded is in the bible “During the night this woman's son died because she lay on him.” (1 King 3:19) ii) During the 18 th and 19 th century co-sleeping was illegal and there were sever penalties if the infant’s death was due to “overlaying”. (Duncan & Byard 2018) 2) Content Sections – this section must contain the following four main topics (the subtopics are recommendations to use if appropriate to your disease/condition): a) Statistics/Epidemiology : i)
