Geog 1113: Cultural Geography Fall 2010 Group Presentations: Cultural Geography of Music Music is one of the most important human cultural attributes. There is no known human cultural group that does not have some form of music. Many songs are replete with cultural themes such as names of places, cultural values, history, stories and heroics and cultural perceptions, etc. This presentation is designed to explore the cultural geography of music as well as the cultural geography in music. For example, identifying music genre with particular cultural region is doing the cultural geography of music . On the other hand, analyzing portrayal of cultural values in songs may be regarded as examining the cultural geography in music . Each group is expected to choose any genre of music of its liking, select THREE songs with cultural geographic themes and examine the following: (i) the history of the music genre (how did this type of music develop? From where – its origins; its spread – diffusion; and any factors that may have influenced its
