Uthmaan M Seedat 33543 HPFP 1-A (Group 1)Recrystallization technique of benzoic acid Introduction: In this experiment, we have learnt that benzoic acid is not very soluble in cold water, but it is soluble in hot water. Recrystallization is a process which is used to remove impurities from substances, via dissolving and evaporating. A good (suitable) recrystallization solvent will dissolve a large amount of the impure compound at temperatures near the boiling point of the solvent. Aim: The purpose of this experiment is to purify samples of organic compounds which are at room temperature and to dissociate the impure sample in the minimum amount of appropriate hot solvent. Objectives: -Observe the recrystallization of benzoic acid and apply theoretical knowledge to filter out the impurities of a substance by evaporating the water -Observe the recrystallization process and the different phase change of matter from liquids to solids.
