The organization I have decided to research is the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA). I didn’t really have a reason to do them but at the time I was choosing my organization I was on the phone with my mom talking about my sister. The discussion involved her basketball career and how she was getting recruited. My mother was telling me about how she has been getting looked at from schools like Maryland, UVA, Radford, and a few others. My mom was saying how my sister really wants to go to UVA to become a doctor and play basketball there. So after this conversation it got me interested in Women in the medical field. The American Medical Women’s Association was founded in 1915 in Chicago by Dr. Bertha VanHoosen. She founded the organization because at the time there were barely any female physicians. As women started receiving more jobs in the medical field more and more problems would start to arise such as pay or the role. Today women make about $17,000 less on average when compared to men.
