Case Studies 1,2,3 2 1. Discuss the effect of anticoagulant medications on overall blood clotting and any vitamins involved in this process. Anticoagulants work by slowing the body’s process of making clots. It is important to take into consid- eration how much vitamin K Mr. Jones is taking when considering the appropriate dose of anticoagu- lants. This is because vitamin K plays a vital role in the chemical action of forming clots. (Nix, 2015) 2. What nutritional advice should be given to Mr. Jones while on anticoagulant medication? I suggest that Mr. Jones adhere to the daily recommended intake of vitamin K to help maintain a sta- ble level of vitamin K in the blood. Plant foods do not produce B12, so it is important for Mr. Jones to eat foods fortified with B12, such as certified nutritional yeast, or take a B12 supplement daily. (Nix, 2015) 3. Is B12 deficiency a concern for Mr. Jones? Why or why not? Yes, B12 is mainly found in dairy products, eggs and meat. Vegan’s tend to stay away from dairy prod- ucts, eggs and meat. Mr. Jones will have to add B12 to his diet in order to avoid becoming B12 deficient

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
