A&P 2 Lab 8- Urinary System Key Terms Urinary system- waste excretion in the body 2 kidneys, 2 ureters, bladder, urethra Glomerulus Erythropoietin 11 cm long, 6 cm wide, 3 cm thick. Renal Parenchyma- glandular tissue Renal Cortex - outer Renal Medulla -inner Renal Columns - extension of the cortex, separates renal pyramids Minor Calyx – narrow, funnel-like structure in renal pyramid Major Calyx – where the minor calyx converges Renal Pelvis – where the major calyx converges Nephron – the functional unit of the kidney Renal Corpuscle – filter the blood plasma Renal Tubule – convert the filtration into urine Urinalysis – study both chemical and physical property of urine Urochrome – substance that affect the color of urine. Product of breakdown of hemoglobin. Gives us yellow color Pyuria – pus in the urine. Very common with kidney infection Hematuria – blood in the urine. Due to some urinary tract infection.
