Understanding and Visualizing Data Course Project- Situation Patient Experience June 9, 2020 As you may be aware healthcare is changing and expanding everyday and data analytics plays a major role in the healthcare industry. In the years to come we will see an even bigger impact these analytic solutions will play in the industry as health information systems seek to influence big data to help provide better care for patients, prevent diseases and optimize all areas of the care continuum for patients. One area all healthcare providers face is the transition from a fee-for-service industry to a value-based care system. This most recent change with switching to a healthcare system where it is no longer a fee for service-based industry but rather a value based system. With a value based system every healthcare professional focuses on the quality of care that is delivered to patients, or patient outcomes. As well as the service they receive and their overall experience. With patient experience being such an imperative factor for hospitals that is why this where the situation to focus was decided, showing the significance to and reward by focusing on patient satisfaction. The concept is to improve the hospitals patient satisfaction scores and rankings nationally by utilizing patient data and surveys. By analyzing this data we can streamline best practices as well as look at our major areas that need improvement. The situation is your current employer is a for-profit hospital that has scored in the 10 th percentile nationally for the last five years. This is a critical project due to 76% of the facility’s patient volume is Medicare and Medicaid patients, we need to if we use data to improve we can see our reimbursement rates improve. Thus providing more income for the organization. One of these parameters that need to be looked at is our population as well as our sample. Surveys are sent out to patients based on patient census, more patients more surveys. With these parameters in order for us to have more accurate data we need to have a sample size of at least 30 patients. Another parameter faced nationally is the response of data that can be used and tied to reimbursement at this time only by paper survey responses. The key stakeholders in this solution also have an effect on the problem and solution. This type of model has everyone at the facility from the top down as an active stakeholder; this is due to the fact the facility needs to be willing to adapt to change. The external key stakeholders are the patients in the community. CEOS as well as the corporation are obvious stakeholders with this situation. However, some of the not so obvious stakeholders are physicians, nurses and patients in the community.
