Aurelius 1 Jenna Aurelius Mrs. Wegner LBST 2102 16 February 2020 Analysis Of A Song: Wish You Were Here; By Pink Floyd Growing up, my parents gave me a very diverse range of music. My parents had a childhood during the 70’s, which was a key era in the development and introduction of rock and roll. Fortunately enough, my parents introduced me to a wide variety of genres and artists. Some of my favorites are Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, The Carpenters, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Queen. I remember when I was younger, I would hang out with my dad in his workshop. There, he would blast hits from 95.7, “the ride.”. There I was introduced to many of the songs I know today, but one song that really always stuck with me was Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. However, I did not really realize the meaning or significance of this song until I spoke to my 9th grade world history teacher about it. His favorite band of all time was Pink Floyd, and he did whatever he could to incorporate songs of theirs into our class, still relating that side of history to it. Essentially, Wish You Were Here is a song written about the lead singer of the band Pink Floyd. Although the 70’s were a time of freedom, expression, and spontaneity; the 70’s were also a time of sex, drugs and rock and roll. Many of these rock and roll bands had to embrace that lifestyle to be truly immersed in their culture, and to be accepted by their fans and the music industry.
