Learning about assessments is an ongoing process as we often experience changes in education practices making educators responsible for their instructions in the classroom. This is going to be my fourth-year teaching and I am still in the process of understanding the state standards and assessments that are associated with the standards. During these years, we establish many assessments to see if our students have mastered these standards or not. In my school district, we use many assessments to measure our students’ learning such as pre- and post- tests for each unit, DCSD Benchmark as a summative assessment and the MAP assessments. Earlier our school district used STAR for math and reading, but then the district shifted to use MAP to assess students’ performance. I really enjoy giving pre-tests at the start of each unit as it provides me clear data about my students’ preunderstanding of the content and how I can plan my instructions to maximize the results.
