Although many instances of stereotyping on television and in movies are negative, sometimes a stereotypical character is the only way for that segment of the population to be seen in mainstream media products. Is it worth it? Or do you think it would be better not to have them portrayed at all? Based on the material from this module, what are the effects of these stereotypical portrayals and what are the effects of the absence of any portrayals. I believe that it would be better not to have them portrayed at all. I believe this is better because stereotyping a group of individuals for the world to see only influences them to be portrayed the way they are shown. Specifically referring to the video shown in the lecture videos of the African American males that were trying to prove that they were more than the stereotypes that are portrayed of their race on television and in movies.
