Lauren Bernd Professor Lynch English 1A 6 September 2011 Trapped in Florence Our days in Nice had been so lovely to us, but we knew that we were wearing out our welcome with our new Israeli friends. We had begun our travels in Frankfurt then proceeded to Zurich, Paris, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona and the Cote d’Azur. Our next destination was Florence. Shelbi and Chrissy had had already been to Rome so Brooke and I decided that we could forgo that metropolis in favor of quaint, authentic Firenze. We had been traveling for a month and a half and we were feeling the wear and tear of backpacking but continued to be motivated by the discovery and thrill of every new place we landed. My three friends and I had been planning our international adventure for six months and set off in early July 2010 anticipating a summer filled with meeting new people and exploring foreign cultures. We decided to split our time between small hotels and couch surfing. Couch surfing was always a risk because you were entering the home of strangers and relying on their hospitality for a few
