Therapeutic Use - To relieve nicotine withdrawal symptoms, including craving Complications - Hypertension - Dizziness - Headache - Arrythmias Contraindications/Precautions - Hypersentivity to nicotine, its components, component of transdermal system or soy (mint flavor lozenges) - Non-smokers - Recovery from acute MI - Severe angina pectoris Interactions - Sympathomimetics: possible decrease theraputic effects of this drugs (transdermal system) - Beta blocker - Acetaminophen - Theophylline Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness - Monitor patient for reduced nicotine withdrawal symptoms - Monitor for side effects ACTIVE LEARNING TEMPLATES Medication Administration Adult: 15mg patch worn for 16 hours daily for 6 weeks Nursing Interventions - To avoid possible burns remove patch before patient has an MRI - Know that transdermal system should not be used patient who have a history of diabetes, peptic alcer or seizures Client Education - Instruct patient to read and follow package instructions to obtain best results with nicotine products - Emphasise that patient must stop smoking as soon as nicotine treatment start to avoid toxicity...
