Reading Questions – “The Gospel of Mark” The following outline of Mark’s Gospel is designed to help you see “the big picture” of Mark: How does the beginning of Mark strike you? In other words, if you are thinking in terms of how stories/novels/biographies begin, how does Mark 1:1-15 compare? -From the background given in the first section, it is very similar to the beginning of a biography or story. It is written more like a biography, unlike other gospels. What information about Jesus is given to the readers in Mark 1:1-15? Are the characters in the Mark’s story given this same information? -Jesus is the Son of God. The prophet Isaiah wrote that he is here to prepare a way for the Lord. The characters in the mark are given the same information as the text, but they do not understand the meaning. The following outline is given to assist your reading of Mark 1:14—8:21: List the ways in which the disciples in Mark 4:1—10:52 miscomprehend the teachings and ministry of Jesus.
