Short Story Characterization and Paragraph Writing Assignment “ Thank you M’am” is a short story written by Langston Hughes. In this short story, the protagonist is Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones who is a compassionate, caring, dignified and strong woman. The quote, “The large woman simply turned around and kicked him right square in his blue-jeaned sitter” portrays that the woman is strong and with a healthy mindset. The author illustrates this when she yelled and kicked Roger. Most people would have run away or called the police in an event like this but the people on the street did not do so. Apart from all of this Mrs.Jones still had the courage to be aggressive. She had the muscular power to drag him up the street to her home. She is a very dignified woman based on the communication she had with Roger and the way she treated him. The quote “ you ought to be my son. I would teach you right from wrong. You go to the sink and wash your wash. Eat some more son. I wish you would behave yourself, son, from here on in.” This quote is
