Pinak Tripathi Mrs. McMennamy English III - 4 th Period 6 May 2020 Sasse Timed RA In Ben Saase's book, Them: Why We Hate Each Other—and How to Heal, he talks about how the US government isn't necessarily as perfect as it sounds, but the citizens don't always with opposing viewpoints very well. Saase puts himself in the shoes of the citizens by using a first person point of view and a series of anecdotes throughout the excerpt in order to get citizens to understand that even though the government doesn't get every single decision right, they do it for the best interest of the nation and that US citizens shouldn't get so angry. Saase really believes that no matter how controversial a decision made by the government is, every decision made in DC is to benefit American citizens in some way, shape, or form, but not all problem scan be addressed immediately and he used some anecdotes from his personal life in order to get some of his readers to recognize that.
