About: Tim O’Brien is the author and the first person narrator of the stories. Begins by describing the dead man physical. Then dialogue separates the physical from the metaphysical. (O’Brien goes on to speak his own life without the war through this man- refers to focusing on studies-O’Brien graduated summa cum laude before leaving for Vietnam.) Also he ponders the man’s life and feelings up until his death. II. The Things They Carried a. About: Spoke of things soldiers carried, from the physical to the metaphysical. Ex. Ted Lavender- dope and tranquilizers and Lieutenant Cross- Martha’s picture but much more. i.
